The Board Of Trustees
The BOT has the overall responsibility for the governance of the school and delegates the day to day management to the Principal and staff. The main concerns of the Board are policy development, strategic planning, management of funds, overseeing employment decisions, maintenance of school buildings and grounds and ensuring the health and safety of students, staff, parents and school visitors. The Board reports to the school community and to the Ministry of Education on a regular basis.
The BOT meets monthly. Members of our school community are welcome to attend any Board meeting. The BOT can be contacted in writing or by using the following email address: BOT@heaton.school.nz
Board members are elected by parents for a one to three year term. Board of Trustee Elections were held in Term 3 2019. The current Board Members are:
Chairperson: Rebecca Wilson
Principal: James Griggs
Staff Representative: Gaye Roberts
Board Secretary: Canterbury Education Services
Parent Teacher Association
Our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is made up of parents, caregivers, staff and other parties who have an interest in supporting the school. Our primary objectives are to:
- provide a communication link between the students, parents, staff and BOT
- support and enhance the school environment through fundraising
- welcome new families and to encourage them to integrate into the school
- manage specific services for the school e.g. the second-hand uniform shop
Any person associated with our school is eligible and encouraged to become a member of the Heaton PTA. As a committee member you only do as much as you have time for – the more people we have the lighter the workload for all! Ways in which you can help are varied from meeting and greeting new families at the start of the year, to helping with the uniform sale at the end of the year!
If you are interested in joining the PTA and would like more information please contact Jane Boyle, acting chairperson to the PTA on email@example.com
