COUNSELLING

He Tīwai Mātauranga has a part-time counsellor who provides a confidential service to students and their whānau. Students are supported to become empowered in all areas of their lives. Where necessary, we liaise and network to gain access to specialist mental health providers.

Using skills, knowledge, and therapeutic approaches to assist students to:

  • be listened to, in privacy and with confidentiality
  • safely navigate moments of crisis and manage ongoing risk
  • externalise their issues and explore their impact
  • find solution-focused strategies to use
  • identify strengths
  • strengthen their sense of self and self-esteem
  • build resilience
  • be advocated for, as needed

Counselling is confidential unless a young person is at serious risk to themself or others. At Heaton, students can self-refer, or be referred to us by their kaupeka leader, a teacher, a parent, or other staff members.

Kelsey is available by phone or email and operates an appointment system. To make contact, please use the survey link below.
