Heaton boys crowned National Cricket Champions!

A thrilling finish on the last day of play, propels Heaton to it’s first Boys National Primary School Cup

With eight difficult matches required just to earn qualification for Nationals, our Heaton boys were thrilled to be part of this prestigious Primary / Intermediates tournament. The facilities at the NZ Cricket High Performance Centre in Lincoln, provided the perfect platform for our team to compete at a high level. Faced with the difficult prospect of overcoming five of the top schools from around the country, our performances across the three competition days needed to be consistent, mature and dynamic.

With four wins from five matches, our team displayed these characteristics in spades, edging out an experienced Roroa side to be crowned Boys National Champions for the first time in our schools history.  Our fielding throughout the duration of the tournament was an absolute pleasure to watch, setting the tone and keeping us in many of our difficult matches. I am extremely proud to announce that six members of our Heaton team finished in the top 20 of the tournaments fielding leaderboard.

A would like to congratulate all of our team for their superb efforts throughout the season. All 15 students in our representative squad made brilliant contributions during different games, and helped us to overcome many challenges along the way. This achievement would not be possible without you all.
