Reporting to Parents

Communicating clear, dependable information about progress and achievement in a timely manner, provides a basis for building a strong partnership between the student, teacher, parents and whānau to support learning and improve student outcomes.

We recognise that for each child’s ongoing learning and success, our connections with parents and whānau are essential. At Heaton, we are committed to a learner-centred relationship and as such, it is our intention to share a range of information with you from across the New Zealand Curriculum, in a variety of ways.

The platform we use to achieve this is Linc-ed, an online electronic reporting portal. It allows teachers, parents, and students access to learning achievement in an online environment that is secure, easy, and effective. The learning report is designed to build year on year so that over time you will have access to comments, learning assessments, images, video and helpful resources all in one place.

Learning Posts

Throughout the year, teachers will share regular learning posts of tasks related to current teaching and learning from across the curriculum. These will be supported by teacher and peer feedback and student self-reflection to guide future learning.

Achievement Level – mathematics, reading and writing

Twice a year (mid and end of the year), teachers will share your child’s current achievement level for mathematics, reading and writing with the next steps for learning. Learning conferences provide an opportunity for further elaboration.

Face to Face Communication

Online content will be supported by face to face learning conferences, twice yearly involving parents, students and teachers. This is an excellent time to discuss your child’s learning journey, social development and to set future goals. If you have any queries or concerns about your child at other times, please communicate with your child’s teacher.
